Tree and Shrub Planting

Potential Problems
The dehydration that can occur immediately after you lift a plant or shrub can cause considerable and irreparable damage to a plant's fine root system.

The Answer
Seanure Root Dip is the ideal solution to the problem, and together with Seanure Soilbuilder, is recommended by a wide variety of landscaping, forestry and nursery agencies.

  • Seanure Root Dip is an organic and mineral concentrate which provides a semi-permeable membrane when applied to bare-rooted stock
  • It minimises dehydration and then acts as a temporary substitute for the mycorrhiza layer in the soil, providing the link through which liquids and nutrients are transferred between the soil and root by osmosis
  • Seanure Soilbuilder complements the work of the Root Dip as, when it's worked into the planting bed, it improves the soil structure and creates good growing conditions for transplanted trees and shrubs

Typical model specifications are

"All bare rooted plants (whether shrubs, transplants, whips or standards) must, immediately after lifting, have their root system immersed in Seanure Root Dip in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations".

The following model specifications can be incorporated direct into tender and contract documents:

TREE AND SHRUB PLANTING IN BEDS
Seanure Soilbuilder (or similar approved) shall be evenly distributed over the planting area at the rate of 70grams/m2 and worked in (by raking or cultivator) to a depth of 50mm prior to planting.

Note: If the quality of the soil is particularly poor it may be desirable to treat the soil to a greater depth, in which case, the rate should be measured pro-rata i.e 140grams/m2 worked into a depth of 100mm and so on.

PIT PLANTING
Seanure Soilbuilder (or similar approved) shall be mixed with the backfill material (or with compost if specified) at a rate of 1.5Kg per cubic meter of backfill.

Note: For a 60 x 60 x 60cm deep pit the amount required is 325 grams per pit added to the backfill.

Seanure Root Dip
There are two possible specifications which can be used. Of these the first is preferred since studies show that treatment to be fully effective needs to be applied immediately after plants are lifted.

A. Where the plant supplier is nominated.
- All bare rooted plants (whether shrubs, transplants, whips or standards) must, immediately after lifting, have their root system immersed in Seanure Root Dip (or similar approved) in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

B. Where the plant supplier is not nominated
- All bare rooted plants (whether shrubs, transplants, whips or standards) must have their root system completely immersed in Seanure Root Dip (or similar approved) in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations immediately they are received from the grower, failing which, such treatment must be executed as soon as possible before planting takes place.
